The focus of this blog will be my progress playing the upcoming World of Warcraft Miniatures (WoWminis) Game. I'm working under the assumption that late next year there'll be a World Championship event somewhere in the US. I plan on entering that event as one of the favourites. To achieve that I'll need strong performances at a regional and national level, and to maintain a significant presence in the WoWminis community.
I'm blogging for a few reasons: To provide my friends with an interesting read; to interact with fellow gamers; to help in my bid to work in R&D for a major game publishing company.
WoWminis is scheduled for release in November. It seems plausible that my first tournament experience will be in Paris, where I'll have traveled to play in the 2008 World Championships for UDE's World of Warcraft Trading Card Game (WoWTCG). I've been playing WoWTCG since its release, I finished 5th in my National Championships and 39th at the 2007 World Championships in San Diego. I'm not proud of either performance, and I attribute my unsatisfactory finishes to my disorganised approach to those competitions. I'll be going to this year's WoWTCG National Championships on Sep 13-14. World Championships 2008 is on Oct 18-19, and my attendance requires that I win a trip to Paris or rationalise away the $3000 it'll cost me to go.
If I don't get a chance to play WoWminis in Paris, my first tournament will be at a local pre-release event. I imagine WoWminis events in Canberra will mirror WoWTCG events in Canberra, whereby I show up, pay some money, beat up a bunch of not-so-competitive players and walk away with a bit of product. To get the practice I'll need to take on the world's best, I'll have to play online. That requires someone (possibly me, although I'm a programming neophyte) to put together a WoWminis mod for the Vassal game client or write something from scratch.
